Arely con [i] griega

Can't be that hard to spell: A (like in sand) R (like in great) E (like in water) L (like in loser) Y (like in why)

Recuerdo que en mis tiempos de juventud y pollita-time (cuando me molestaba que me dijeran "chick") siempre, al decir mi nombre, la frase completa era: "Arely con [i] griega, Cortés, con [ese] y acento en la [e] González", por alguna razón, esperaba que al menos escribieran mi segundo apellido correctamente. He de decir que esas especificaciones sobre mi nombre estaban motivadas por el orgullo... me hacían sentir que mi nombre era tan "peculiar" que se necesitaban ciertas indicaciones para escribirlo correctamente. Claro, eso fue motivo de burla es más de una ocasión, pero aún en esos casos, nunca me molestó, más bien me parecía bueno, dado que, implicaba que la gente recordaba como escribir correctamente mi nombre.

Ahora bien, aquí, tan lejos de la patria y la lengua materna. Siempre sufro un poquito al conocer a alguien porque sé que NO pronunciará bien mi nombre (salvo cuando es una persona cuya lengua materna es el Español, obvio.) Y he de admitir que me he resignado levemente a la realidad, y ya ni el intento hago para corregir su pronunciación.

But, come on! if most of my interaction with someone is via e-mail (I know, that sounds kinda sad), I would, at least, expect them to write it properly!

Arey, Aerly and Arley are NOT my name. I'm not that person they're writing to!!! And, no, it's not just a typo, if they make the mistake more than once... Can't they just see my name from my previous emails! God! Don't they know that one's name is what matters the most to each person???

Hm. That makes me think. Does it matter that much? Does it matter at all?! I don't quite know... I'm sure, though, I don't smile and think "oh ternurita, lo escribió mal / Oh sweetie, you misspelled it... again!" (choose the language according to my mood) every time I get an email starting with:

Hi Arley,

or

Hi Arey

or, the most recent:

Hi Aerly,
